Cherokee County Men Arrested In GBI Child Sex Sting
CANTON, GA — Two men from Cherokee County were snared in a statewide operation targeting individuals who sought to have sexual contact with minors. Twenty-one people were arrested over a five-day period beginning Jan. 30 following an investigation conducted by the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The task force was aided in its efforts by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit, Brookhaven Police Department, DeKalb County District Attorney's Office, United States Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and 22 law enforcement agencies around the state.
The GBI states those arrested were charged with violating the state's Computer or Electronic Pornography and Child Exploitation Prevention Act of 2007 and/or trafficking people for labor or sexual servitude. More charges could be pending against the suspects.
This sting, dubbed Operation Interception by the GBI, was centered in Brookhaven and was carried out after several months of planning. GBI notes the people arrested traveled from around metro Atlanta other states with plans to meet a child for sexual purpose. They range from 22 to 55 in range, and multiple suspects were also found to be in possession of illegal drugs, the GBI notes. Officials also took and processed 24 digital devices as evidence.
The people arrested in the operation include:

The goal of the operation was to apprehend people "who communicate with children online, have sexually explicit conversations, and then travel to meet them for the purpose of having sex," the GBI said.
The ICAC Task Force conducted undercover online operations, using sites that are known to advertise for sex. These undercover agents also used apps that are popular among adults who are seeking sex with minors. These cases will be prosecuted by the DeKalb County District Attorney's Office.
"We applaud this task force for its vigilance and proactive efforts to protect our children," DeKalb District Attorney Sherry Boston. "Those who prey upon our most vulnerable population, must be held accountable for their actions. We will work quickly to file formal charges with the ultimate goal of prosecuting the accused individuals in the interest of justice for these egregious crimes."

Canton Entering Auto Suspects Captured In Cobb County
CANTON, GA — Police have arrested two Cobb County men accused of entering at least one vehicle in a Canton neighborhood and firing a gun at a homeowner who chased the suspects with a bat.
D-Amonte' DeKeyes Brown of Austell and Powder Springs resident Kardarious Keyonte Odoms, both 18, are charged with one count each of entering auto, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, Canton police said Friday.
The pair is accused in entering auto incidents reported at homes on Oconee Way. Officers were dispatched around 4:15 a.m. Jan. 24 to a call following a shooting in the community, which is located off Prominence Point Parkway.
Cops were told by dispatchers that someone "fired several shots while driving away at a homeowner who chased the perpetrator with a baseball bat and then struck the suspect vehicle as it fled the scene."
Officers arrived to find a bullet hole in the homeowner's garage and holes in nearby vehicles. They also discovered shell casings lying in the road near the home of the caller. Upon learning about the case, Canton police detectives went to work, tracking down leads, obtaining surveillance footage and collecting evidence.
That work led to police identifying one of the men involved. On Thursday, Jan. 31, officers with Cobb County Police Department's VIPER team apprehended the identified subject and another described as a person of interest in the Canton case. Detectives followed up with the investigation, and "have been able to positively identify both individuals as the perpetrators involved in the car break-ins and shots fired incident" on Oconee Way, the Canton Police Department said.
Brown and Odom are also believed to be behind similar incidents in Cobb and other metro Atlanta areas counties, Canton police added.
"We are very grateful these individuals are in custody and a safe and successful resolution was brought to these crimes against our citizens" Police Chief Mark Mitchell said. "Our detective's dedication and diligence was key to the arrests and prove we will not stop investigating crimes against our community from those who come here to steal from the hard-working public we serve. We are very appreciative for Cobb County Police Department's assistance during this investigation."
Canton police note more entering auto charges are pending against Odoms and Brown. Both suspects are being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
